About

My mission is to help businesses, and their leaders, to overcome the barriers to growth.  Growth companies fuel our economy — but too many promising companies fail to realize their potential.   After more than two decades of experience as a CEO, marketer, investor and board member I wanted to share what I’ve learned about the predictable challenges of growing a successful business, and to invite others to share their ideas as well. This is also the subject of my first book, The Curve Ahead.

I founded Power Strategy, Inc to help leaders with strategy, alignment and execution.  I spend most of my time problem solving with executives teams who want to accelerate their success.  I also help develop tomorrow’s leaders through executive education and coaching, and teach Strategic Management, Innovation, and Design Thinking at the Harvard Extension School.

I was CEO of Novera Software, a venture-backed start-up that I sold to Mercator Software.  Prior to Novera, I was SVP of Marketing and Corp Dev at RSA Security.  I was also a VP and GM at Sun responsible for PC-Unix integration solutions.

As a Partner at Fidelity Ventures, I led investments in technology companies including: Black Duck Software, EnterpriseDB, Ping Identity, Polyserve (acquired by HP), RedBrick Health, Ventana and Vibes Media. I was also a board member of Ximian (acquired by Novell) and Curam Software (acquired by IBM).  Prior to Fidelity Ventures, I was a Venture Partner at Charles River Ventures.

Earlier in my career, I was a management consultant with Temple, Barker & Sloane where I co-founded the firm’s technology industry practice, working with Apple Computer, Digital Equipment, Lotus Development and other technology leaders.

I earned BSCE and MS degrees in Environmental Engineering from Tufts, and an MBA from Stanford.   I’m currently a Trustee at the Perkins School for the Blind where I’m helping the school extend its leadership role to the internet.  My wife and I have five wonderful kids.
